Overview

The department of Civil Engineering was started in the academic year 2013 – 14 with an intake of 120 students. The department has well qualified and dedicated Faculty members.

Labs

  • Basic Civil Engineering Laboratory:

This laboratory is used by 1st and 2nd semester students of first year B. E. of all branches of engineering. This laboratory has equipments like Auto level, theodolite, slump cone, prismatic and surveyors compass, various types of chains, plane table accessories, tapes, Fly wheel, Support reaction and bending moment apparatus, Friction apparatus and Screw jack etc.

  • Strength of Materials laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 3rd semester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of building materials like Mild steel, Cast iron, Brass, structural timber etc. The laboratory has major equipments like Universal testing machine of 40T capacity, Torsion testing machine, Impact testing machine and hardness testing machine.

  • Fluid Mechanics I & II laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 4th and 5th semester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of fluids. The laboratory has major equipments like notch set up, Metacentric height measurement apparatus, Verification of Bernoulli’s theorem, Impact of jet on vanes, Reynolds’s apparatus, venturi meter orifice meter setup, local point pressure with the help of Pitot tube, the terminal velocity of a spherical body in oil, calibration of Nozzle meter, Pelton wheel, Hydraulic ram, multistage and single stage centrifugal pump and Mouth Piece etc to study the characteristics of fluids.

  • Engineering Geology laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 3rdsemester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of minerals, rocks and ores. The laboratory has 100 mineral specimen, 100 rock specimen, 23 ore samples covering entire spectrum of available on entire India. The lab also has models to exhibit faults, folds and other geological features.

  • Construction Materials & Techniques laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 4thsemester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of aggregates, sand, cement mortar and concrete. The laboratory has 100T compression testing machine, Compacting factor apparatus, Vee Bee consistometer, Rebound hammer, sieve sets for Aggregate and sand, Le Chatelier’s flask and mould, Pycnometers, Blain’s air permeability test apparatus etc.

  • Surveying I & II laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 2nd, 4th and 5th semester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the various aspects of surveying using instruments like chain, tape, compass, level, theodolite, tacheometer, Total station apparatus etc.

  • Environmental engineering I & II laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 6thsemester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of potable water. The instruments available are Digital pH meter, Digital conductivity meter, Digital Dissolved oxygen meter, Digital turbidity meter, Digital salinity meter, Jar test apparatus and Chloroscope apparatus etc.

  • Transportation Engineering laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 5thsemester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of aggregates and bitumen used in road construction. The instruments available are Aggregate Crushing Value Test, Aggregate impact value, Los Angeles Abrasion value, California Bearing Ratio with GM mould, Length and thickness gauge etc for aggregate testing. The instruments available in the testing of bitumen are Penetration value apparatus, Viscosity apparatus, Softening point apparatus, Ductility apparatus, Flash point and fire point apparatus, Bitumen content by centrifuge extractor, Stripping value of road aggregate and Marshall Stability value for bituminous mix.

  • Geotechnical engineering I & II laboratory:

This laboratory is utilized by 6thsemester students of Civil engineering. The students study about the basic properties of soil and its behavior. The laboratory has Digital oven, various I.S Sieves, Pycnometer bottle, Density bottle, Liquid limit apparatus, Plastic limit apparatus, Shrinkage limit apparatus, Permeability tests both Constant head and variable head, Direct shear test apparatus, Consolidation test apparatus, Compaction test apparatus, Core cutter, Sand replacement apparatus, Unconfined Compression Test apparatus, Vane Shear test apparatus and Triaxial compression test apparatus.

  • The Faculty members Dr. Arunkumar Bhat, Mr. Prashant N. Nilugal, Mr. Manish Pandey, Mrs. Shivangi Singh Chauhan, Mr. Pratish Awasthi, Mr. Vaibhav Bhawsar, Mr. Jaideep Sharma, Mr. Vikas Patidar and Mr. Ankit Prajapat attended two weeks Workshop on Introduction to Structural Engineering conducted by IIT, Kharagpur. Mr. Ramanjeet Singh Khanuja was the course coordinator of Workshop.
  • The Faculty members Mr. Prashant N. Nilugal, Mr. Manish Pandey, Mrs. Shivangi Singh Chauhan, and Mr. Vikas Patidar attended two weeks Workshop on Environmental Studies conducted by IIT, Mumbai. Mr. Ishwar Kaushal was the course coordinator of Workshop.
  • The Faculty members Mr. Prashant N. Nilugal, Mrs. Shivangi Singh Chauhan, Mr. Pratish Awasthi and Mr. Ramanjeet Singh Khanuja attended four days Workshop on teaching methodologies called as Mission10x sponsored by Wipro. The team has secured second place among available 07 teams.
  • The department will be conducting 2 day’s India’s biggest civil championship during 06th and 07th of October 2015 on bridge making in association with Gadget’s. CDGI is selected as regional centre for Indore region. In this 165 students participated in 33 groups and 07 groups are selected for National level competition to be held during April May 2016 in Mumbai. The CDGI Chairman had sponsored 50% of fees (Rupees 250 per student amounting to Rs 41250/) for each group. The department of Civil engineering wishes to place whole hearted appreciation for this support.
  • The department conducts regular Faculty development programme (FDP) and Faculty training programme (FTP).
  • The students of 3rd semester visited Indore railway station to study the construction and maintenance of railway tracks and stations.
  • The students of 3rd semester visited Baigram village to study the rocks and minerals of Indore.
  • The students of 5th semester visited construction site at Mhow Highway project.
  • The students of 5th semester visited manufacturing unit of Fly ash bricks in Indore.

This is a scholarship program supported by Cummins India foundation, Cummins India Office Campus, Campus Tower A, Survey No. 21, Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra – 411045. The student will be supported in Full tuition fees, Examination fees, University development fees and stationary fees till the completion of course.
