Department of Electrical and Electronics

Overview

Electrical Engineering Department is one of the unique departments of the Institute. Over the years, the department has progressed at a rapid pace with development in both the spheres of infrastructure facilities and academics. Our unique combination of theoretical and practical activities through our well-founded laboratories gives a truly distinctive value to address research activity at Institute. The department has good qualified faculty members engaged in teaching and research with the aim of achieving excellence in the field of Electrical Engineering.
The vision of the department is to provide the leadership to enable India's excellence in the field of Electrical Engineering. The department is committed to advancement of the frontiers of knowledge in Electrical Engineering and to provide the students with a stimulating and rewarding learning experience.

At present the Department is pursuing academic activities with the following goals and objectives:

  • Research/job oriented based approach to reshape the academics.
  • Fullest up-gradation and technological modernization of infrastructural facilities.
  • Encouraging teaching innovations through audio visual aids, computer interfaced projection etc.
  • Promote basic research activities in the various areas of Electrical Engineering
  • In coming days to impart high quality education, research and going to start M.Tech. Program.

At present the department of electrical and electronics engineering has fully developed laboratories and library with all the facilities required by the students for deep learning.

It is our goal to provide our students with a strong theoretical foundation, practical engineering skills, experience in interpersonal communication and teamwork, and a daily emphasis on ethics, professional conduct and critical thinking.

Labs

  • BEEE Lab:

In this lab students gets familiar to passive and active electronic and electrical components, circuit analysis as well as basic electrical machines. This laboratory also reinforce the theoretical concepts with a hands-on approach and allow the students to gain significant experience with electrical instruments such as AC and DC circuit analysis, transformer, electrical machines, digital meters, oscilloscopes, logic gates power supplies and so on. The facility created is geared to freshmen and others who want to clarify fundamentals to electrical and electronics.

  • Electrical Workshop Lab:

The Electrical Workshop is sufficiently outfitted with all the equipments and accessories for conducting practical. Practical winding of Transformer, models of small transformer and machinery (cut-view) and wiring accessories as per BIS specifications are being deployed for the benefit of the students. The students are exposed to the current practices in repairing and maintenance of appliances, domestic wiring and industrial installation including the types of starters used for starting various electrical motor. A new facility of winding machine has been added to enrich students with the practical exposure.

  • Network Analysis Lab:

This lab is equipped with trainer boards and bread boards with all the components required to learn and verify various network theorems. This enables student to make connections and test them independently.

  • Electrical Machines Lab (EM-I and EM-II):

Electrical machines laboratory is equipped with recent AC machines (single phase and three phase Transformers, Induction machines and Synchronous machines) and DC machines, enabling our students to work in an industrial environment. The lab facilities are sufficient to conduct experiments as per University syllabus and much more relevant experiments. The lab gives the students a thorough practical knowledge of AC and DC machines along with its industrial applications. Safety precautions have been taken carefully to avoid any mishap and the student gets a free environment for research and development of concepts.

  • Power Electronics and Electrical Drives Lab (PEDC and ED):

Power Electronics and Electrical Drives Lab is equipped with Power Electronics Training System with DSP kits including - Power MOSFETS, power thyristors, chopper/invertors control units, thyristors controllers, function generators, oscilloscopes, power scopes, signal generators and electrical drives. It is used for teaching the integration of power electronics converters to design and implement motor drive systems and controlled drives. The lab has AC and DC machines to train students for Industry environment.

  • Simulation Laboratory (EES,EET,M&S):

Simulation Laboratory provides students a platform for research along with the curriculum demands. It is well equipped with MATLAB and Simulink – 2013 (Latest and Licensed version).

  • Power System Laboratory:

This lab is recently being equipped with Transmission Training Module and MATLAB and Simulink – 2013 version which enrich the student with hardware and software connectivity thereby enabling measurement of various line parameters. This lab also enables student to perform Load flow analysis and power system stability with stochastic and deterministic methods empowering them to carry out research in Power system.

  • Computer Aided Machine Design and Power System:

This lab is equipped with various advanced software like Matlab, AutoCAD, Scilab and MI Power for machine design and power system design.

  • Electrical Instrumentation:

The Measurements & Instrumentation lab is equipped with CRO, oscilloscopes, CT, PT, Bridges, various trainer kit and earth tester such as megger), signal generators, digital multimeters and loading inductor, capacitor, resistive loads, LCR meter, energy meter.

  • Switchgear & Protection Lab:

The Switch Gear and Protection Lab is equipped with various switch gear instruments used in power system like IDMT, Over current , thermal , overvoltage , microprocessor based relays and static relays. These relays are studied and operated.

  • Project and Research Lab:

The Project and Research lab shows a new mechanism to improve the innovation ability of students/research scholars and to collaborate with the industry persons. It provides a platform for the research scholars in the department to share their knowledge in their field of expertise. It includes the software like LABVIEW, PLC, DSO, AutoCAD, PSIM, MATLAB and Simulink 2013, PSCAD for the help of students to innovate new ideas.
