The Department of Innovation and Research (DIR) at CDGI is committed to promote an atmosphere of Research and Innovation. The department intends to motivate students and staff to take up projects with both innovative and entrepreneurial values with emphasis on converting their academic efforts into a career prospect. Priority is accorded to projects involving multi-disciplinary concepts.
DIR aims to implement associated activities like industrial research and development, entrepreneurship, skill development through specialised and vocational training, Industrial training. The department is envisioned to have far-reaching implications in providing additional opportunities of self-employment and career aspects.
DIR is headed by Professor (Dr.) Arvind K. Shrimali, Day to day activities are managed by Mr. Narayan Patidar (IEDC Coordinator).

DIR provides a forum for researchers (both faculty and students). Under this forum, Elite Researchers Association (ERA), provides platform to faculty members to carry out innovative projects having a significant research content. It is a strong unit of about seventy faculty members.

Young Scientists and Entrepreneurs Forum (YSEF) provides support and opportunities to students of CDGI to look beyond curriculum to develop special skills in research, innovation and entrepreneurship. The department received a shot in the arm when the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, established an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) at CDGI in year of 2016.
In the first year of its inception of IEDC at CDGI, ten projects have been implemented. Five of these projects were funded by IEDC. To spread the positive momentum of innovativeness and entrepreneurship, additional five projects were funded by the management of CDGI.

DIR is engaged in Pradhan MantriKaushalVikasYojana (PMKVY) the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to deliver industry-relevant skill training.It runs following courses:

CDGI has always maintained a concrete vision for the training which is a crucial interface between the stages of completion of academic program of the students and their entry into the suitable employment or the corporate world. The training cell at CDGI imbibes the following objectives:

Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT), Taiwan and CDGI
CDGI signed a MOU with MCUT to collaborate in academic development research activities. As part of this three students of Electronics & Communication department namely Mr. Gyanendra Rathore, Mr. Himanshu Mishra and Ms. Shikha Sakalley were selected for MS program of MCUT on full scholarship.
CDGI has taken many initiatives to contribute in mitigating climate change by implementing projects based on renewable energy sources. Following are the highlights of these projects.
• CDGI is the first Educational Institute in Indore, which has established 125 KW Solar PV Power Plant which is generating 600 units of power daily.
• A rainwater harvesting project is under development and would cater the water consumption need of whole campus of CDGI at Khandwa road Indore.
• DIR has taken up the responsibility of gettingwaterless urinals installed at CDGI, Indore in a phased manner.
