The main aim of the library is to support the academic programs offered by the institute, which is fulfilled by providing physical access to the books made available in the present situation. It strives to create a comprehensive collection of books useful for the faculty and student community in the institute to assimilate technical knowledge effectively. It is also striving hard to nurture the very basic needs of the faculty and students who are focussed towards research activities.
Library being the heart of the institute is located on the Third and Fourth floors of the Central block in the Main building. Each floor has a carpet area of 810 Sq mts., with the total carpet area of the library summing up to 1620 Sq. mts. The reference section accommodated on the Fourth floor provides seating arrangement for more than 200 students at a time. The reading room created on the Third floor provides seating arrangements for nearly 32 members to go through newspapers, magazines and journals.
The Central Library has been systematically organized into the following functional sections:
Acquisition and Processing:
The key functions of acquisition and processing section is to procure books and documents pertaining to all subjects for proper classification and cataloguing. The process of book acquisition is fully computerized using ACCSOFT ERP system. This section is also responsible for maintaining the books which involves pasting of labels, date slips, and bar-code stickers.Computer Applications:
This section coordinates with all other sections of the library for computerization. This section is responsible for providing computer based library services. It has a content development team for computerization. A few computers are dedicated for staff and students.Reader Services:
This section focuses on issue, return and renewal of books for the students and staff. Besides offering membership to faculty, students and supporting staff of the institute, the library also assists alumni. It provides assistance to readers in locating specific study material. This section clarifies queries of readers specifically pertaining to circulation and about the library in general. Readers may approach the reference and issue counter for information or any assistance in using the library collections and services.Journals Section:
This section deal with activities related to subscription of print and on-line journals, their availability, display and enabling access to e-journals on the campus LAN. The Institute has a subscription of nearly 691 on-line journals. Access to a large collection of e-journals is made possible through membership of DELNET.Text Book and Book Bank Section:
This book collection consists of text books prescribed in the courses of study or those recommended by faculty. Text books are either issued overnight or are made available only for reference. Students can borrow three books at a time from the text book section. The book bank section has multiple copies of selected text books, from which two books are made available to the students for an entire semester.
